It is impossible for a deep-rooted university in Cyprus which has set ‘virtue’, ‘knowledge’ and ‘advancement’ as its target to be insensitive towards arts, which is the most indispensable part of life. We started out with this point of view and have taken steps to integrate not only our university but also our region with arts. In this context, we have set many targets, one of which is the newly- established “EMU Art Collection”. Formed by the works of esteemed artists living in Cyprus, the collection will undoubtedly continue to exist under the roof of a museum when it reaches a certain accumulation and maturity.
Universities should not only be the nest of science but also art. For this reason, we believe that it is highly imperative to take the initiative and contribute to the creation of campuses / universities and cities integrated with art. Our aim is both to give the artists the value they deserve and to contribute to the formation of a more livable and beautiful world by sharing their rich accumulation with our students, our community and ultimately with the world.
I extend my gratitude and appreciation to esteemed artists who have contributed to our collection and to my valuable team for their selfless work in the realisation of this project.
