    Nilgün Güney

    (Graphic, Collage, Woman Image)

Being raised in an environment surrounded by art and watching her father Turkish Cypriot painter İsmet V. Güney's work, influenced Nilgün Güney's life and she studied graphic design in İstanbul. The effects of her education can be observed in the artist's work. With the effect of coming from a discipline where all kinds of materials being used in digital media like graphic design, the artist tries a variety of different styles and many works of Güney are made with a combination of different techniques. Surfaces like paper, canvas, cardboard and wood are colored with acrylic and oil paint. Drawing different patterns with charcoal on wooden surfaces, sticking paper or mirrors onto surfaces create an opportunity to experience extraordinary materials both by the artist and the audience. As seen in one of her artworks from the collection, Güney creates a unique woman figure by using big eyes, linear noses and small mouths. The artist's portraits are generally accompanied by symbolic signs. By using rather bright, vivid and epic colors, and the symbolic signs, the artist ensures that the audience enters an imaginary world while looking at her artworks. Human, feelings of human, communication between human and, guidance of factors and beliefs are in the center of all of these surrealistic approaches.
