Ayhan Menteş is one of the building blocks of the Turkish Cypriot painting with his unique colors and lines and his paintings full of symbols. Having discovered new horizons in terms of culture and art in Ankara, the place he lived part of his life at the age of 14, the artist exhibits an identity that is interested in different languages and cultures and also carries out research about his own roots. He reflects his research in his works and uses it as a building block. The artist, who practiced in the fields of ceramics, sculpture and printing besides the painting, with his observer and researcher qualities, has also produced works of art in the still life and landscape category as well as his figurative pieces in which he worked from the real model or imagination. In addition to his paintings referring to the culture and roots of Cyprus, there are also works of his own consisting of his own unique symbols.
To understand these abstract paintings, which have a very primitive style with both color and forms, goes through solving the language of Menteş. Although the artist often uses the blue color as often as can be seen in the two examples in the collection, he creates many variegated paintings by adding many different, vibrant and bright colors to next to blue. The artist is not stuck to a single period as he tried to improve himself according to the era he lived in and kept up with contemporary art techniques by producing art with digital methods.
