One of the most important sources that carry the past to present is visual memory, and one of the oldest forms of thevisual memory is portraits. Whilst the artworks produced in different periods carry the culture, lifestyle and fashion understanding of the past centuries, they sometimes share the emotions of the people we have never met as well as the calmness or dynamism in their soul. As a reflection of the art movements and styles changing according to periods, the portrait art provides important clues about an artist's style, language and the dominant art characteristics of a specific period. On the other hand, the painting surface that the artist looks at as if s/he is looking at the mirror, sometimes becomes a plane reflecting his/her “own self", something which s/he is afraid to face. This image allows the viewer to establish a relationship with a complex imagination and an exploratory spirit.
