“Inspired by Paper” Exhibition Met Art Lovers at EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) continues to participate not only in  local art events but also international ones as an art-cherishing institution. The Cyprus Paper Artists Association, a touring organisation to which our local artist İnci Kansu served as the honorary president this year, met art-lovers in Cyprus. This touring exhibition is contributed by the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA). This exhibition titled “Inspired by Paper”, arrived for the first time in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and hosted by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). 

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held on November 30th 2018, Friday (18:00) at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu Oğurlu, EMU Center for Cyprus Studies (DAÜ-KAM) Art Coordinator and Exhibition Curator Zehra Şonya, IAPMA Exhibition Supervisor Helene Tschacher and President of Cyprus Paper Artists Association İsmet Tatar were among notable names attending the ceremony.

“I Thank All Who Supported Us”

During her opening speech, the President of Cyprus Paper Artists Association İsmet Tatar said: “We are happy to have brought this exhibition to Cyprus. It was organised for the 30th anniversary of IAPMA and has been travelling across Europe’s museums for two years. This project was realised with the TRNC, EMU and IAPMA’s cooperation. I thank all supporters of the project”. IAPMA Exhibition Supervisor Helene Tschacher also expressed her joy about the opening of the exhibition and thanked all attendees and EMU. EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu Oğurlu said the following in her speech: “I thank all the Cyprus Paper Artists Association members who helped EMU host this exhibition. I also want to thank İsmet Tatar and her fellow artists for their contribution to maintaining art in Cyprus.

Will be Open for Visitors until February 15th

The exhibition will be open for visit on weekdays until December 28th, 2018 during the following hours: 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 17:00. The second leg of the exhibition’s journey will take it to Nicosia Atatürk Congress Center on February 4th, 2018 at 18:00. There, it will be open for visitors until February 15th, 2019 on weekdays during working hours.

Since its inception in April 2016, the “Inspired by Paper” exhibition has travelled through Austria, Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Israel, Poland and Sweden and received great attention. IAPMA was formed in Düren, Germany (1986) and has ben lead by Nicole Donnelly since 2015. The exhibition supervisor is famous artist Helene Tschacher.
